JONES, BEVERLY ANN (1943 ~ 2022). The following is an obituary for Beverly Ann Jones, spouse of former District Judge Robert D. Jones. The obituary was published in the January 27, 2023 edition of the Austin American Statesman

Beverly Ann (Shepardson) Jones was born April 1943 in Medford, Massachusetts and died December 26, 2022 at her home in Austin, Texas with her husband, the Honorable Robert D. Jones and sister Rica Shepardson at her side.

As the daughter of a U. S. Naval Officer, she moved around as a child living in California, Pennsylvania, Panama, Cuba and ultimately settling in Texas with her father’s assignment to Chase Naval Air Station at Beeville. She moved to Austin in 1960 to attend the University of Texas at Austin. She left the University prior to graduation to join the staff of Governor John Connally. In 1965 she married Robert D. Jones. Bob and Beverly had three children: Jennifer, Michael, and Steven.

Beverly later returned to UT where she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She was a pediatric nurse at the Brackenridge Children’s Hospital for many years. She enjoyed cross-stitching, playing bridge with her friends and taking family vacations to her family home in Ogunquit, Maine. She spent her final Christmas in the living room that was home to almost a half century of Christmas mornings with her husband, sister, sons, daughter in law and granddaughters Grayson & Blayne (Steven & Dawn).

She was a loving mother and devoted wife and spent countless hours volunteering at her children’s schools and chauffeuring her boys, and often their teammates, to and from basketball, soccer and baseball practices and was always at their games. She opened her home to their friends and was quick to provide a home cooked meal for all.

Beverly should be remembered as a giver; she was a steward of the environment, advocate for those with special needs, a shoulder to lean on and a constant source of love and encouragement and loyal friend. She was “mom” to many besides her own children and will be dearly missed. She was an advocate for the disabled.

Bev and Bob will be interned at the Texas State Cemetery (909 Navasota, Austin, Texas 78702) on Wednesday, February 8th at 10:30AM. A reception will follow in their honor. A meal will be served and all who knew and loved Bob and Bev are encouraged to attend. (Later ashes will be spread on the beach in Maine.)

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Hope House Austin at hopehouseaustin.org. There will be a donation basket at the reception if guests prefer not to make online donations.

The family would like to thank Erica and Zaynah Baghezza, Melania Santos Sanchez and the staff and caregivers from Visiting Angels and Hospice Austin for their compassionate care as well as her friends who took her to lunch and doctor’s appointments and came to visit her to the end.
